Our first year as an incorporated association has rolled by, and lo and behold we have survived and grown! As well as having a special SLUG meeting at darling harbour Thursday night during the Linux expo, (keep checking the web pages for details) we will have a normal meeting incorporating an AGM on 31st March. This means that we will elect a committee. Last time was a little unfair in that voting was one by one, rather than voting all at once. This time I promise things will be more organised. But in order to get ready for this, here's something I want you all to think about :- whether you'd like to stand for committee, what sort of person you want on the committee, and what future direction you want SLUG to take. If you think you'd like to run, can I encourage you to announce your candidacy and your policies? You may like to join up with some other people in a 'ticket'. At first, last year, I thought this would be a bad thing. I now think it is inevitable, and to some extent a useful thing. If you feel that SLUG should take a certain direction, that you could make a contribution or that you are unhappy with things as they stand: NOW IS YOUR CHANCE! Please, take this opportunity to think about this. It is much better if we could have a chance to hear people's points of view well before the meeting. I think the least we could do is: arrange for statements to be attached to our web page, for people to announce candidacy and statements on the mailing list, and answer questions by mailing list. Obvously this can be abused, but with good intentions we'll get by as usual. We have quite a lot of time before the 31st. Perhaps at the expo you might meet with like minded people and gauge a level of support?
