Have you ever tried AVP (Anti Viral Pro) ??

I find it kicks Nortons and McAfee's ass..
It's also available for Linux and BSD.
With a bit of software, you can make it automatically scan
incoming/outgoing mail with it..
it's real strengths is rapid (automatic) updates..
it goes to GREAT lengths to unpack things.. like Mail files with UUdecoded
or MIME attachements, Word files.. things embedded in Word and Excel
files.. In ZIP files.. even tar.gz files!!
