Well i got an email from CwO here is a copy of the realavent part.
Acceptable Use Policy update: It's OK to have a LAN at home!
Optus@Home have made some small but significant changes to the Acceptable
Use Policy (AUP) after receiving requests for clarification from customers.
Confusion has centred on the distinction between the connection of our cable
modems to 'servers' that are used to run small home networks and other
servers that are used to deliver services to third party Internet users. To
avoid any further confusion the term 'server ' has been replaced with the
term 'network services'. The changes outlined below relate to section 8.5 of
the AUP. The revised policy document can be found under the Member Services
tab of the Optus@Home site.
'Bandwidth, Data Storage and Other Limitations'
Updated Version
8.5. You may not run network services or provide network services to others
via the Optus@Home residential service. The use of a Local Area Network
(LAN) for personal use is permitted. The Optus@Home residential service
includes personal WebSpace accounts for publishing personal Web pages.
Examples of prohibited use include, but are not limited to, providing
network services for e-mail, http, ftp, irc, dhcp or multi-user interactive
forums
Previous Version
You may not run a server in connection with the Optus@Home residential
service, nor may you provide network services to others via the Optus@Home
residential service. The Optus@Home residential service includes personal
WebSpace accounts for publishing personal Web pages. Examples of prohibited
uses include, but are not limited to, running servers for mail, http, ftp,
irc, and dhcp, and multi-user interactive forums.
'Server' changed to 'Network Services'
A 'server' can mean different things to different people.
For example the word 'server' can mean a computer program that provides
services to other computers or alternatively it can refer to the actual
computer that a 'server' program runs on.
To resolve this possible confusion the term 'server' has been changed to the
'Network Services' to refer to a computer program that provides services to
other computers, in particular providing services to other computers on the
Internet.
Home Networking Clarification: 'The use of a Local Area Network (LAN) for
personal use is permitted.'
Optus@Home has no problems with a local area network (LAN) being connected
to the cable modem as long as there are no Internet facing network services
running on it. So, sharing a printer, for instance, between two computers
that are locally networked and connected to a cable modem is not a violation
of the AUP.
