You are correct about that. I think I didn't use gif because of the
license stuff and PNG was not supported in many email clients at the time.
I was using clients that showed the images in the mail (Netscape). Now
that I use pine with xv to show images it should not be a problem any
more, well locally anyway.

Yes, I have problems with tiff and some viewers not recognising them.
