yep this is the way we are known!!

- The problem is that something seems to be hogging my memory.  If I inspect
/proc/meminfo - straight after log-in I get about 3Mb free, i.e 28MB in use.
- It's not X 'cause I am running command line as the default run level at
the moment

The memory problem is not a problem its the way Linux handles memory. Its a
good thing as it loads everything it uses into memory - therfore speeding up
the performance of your machine. When a request for memory is made by
another program then it moves what isnt necessary into swap and load what
requested the memory in toeh 'real' memory. So it seems as you have less
free memory that you actually do, but really this is good!!
