RedHat is the way to go
alot of distributions are based on or very similar to redhat (mandrake,
turbo etc)
giving a good basis, also redhat seems to be "the linux" although corel
is also doing well
redhat offers GUI and the ability to go without it easily.
>From what i have heard corel is rather windows ish in this respect.

RedHat is the defacto standard though, and for a newbie, its still the
best.

Although if you want to teach kids serious unix skills, i dont think
linux is the place to start, i think freebsd would be a better option.
Some could say this is throwing someone in the deep end (and id laugh),
to a degree it is. However if i was teaching, i would want students
comfortable with the CLI before looking at X, and unfortunately most
dists try to be windows these days =( By using FreeBSD its putting them
into something they are even less capable of learning at home, and
giving them an edge in getting into other unix flavours comfortably.

Although any high school with unix workstations is a school i would send
my kids to (if i had any, or was old enough)
