Have a look for the Linux SMP mailing list (sorry, can't remember where it
is....). I was lurking on it about 2 years ago and someone posted a kernel
patch and tools that allowed you to set the processor affinity for
particular processes, much like the the above Unixen (and SGI's IRIX, I
believe...). The patch may still exist, but don't be surprised if it
doesn't. The discussion at the time went a little over my head, but the gist
of it was that this is a hard problem, and even when done right it's
difficult to do without screwing up the scheduling quite badly.
