add herbert's options line to /etc/conf.modules (*), then just force
the module to be loaded at boot by putting "eexpress" into
/etc/modules
(since you're using slink, are you using a 2.0 or 2.2 kernel?)

in debian, if you want your conf.modules changes to survive package
upgrades (you do), put the lines in a file in /etc/modutils/
instead. run update-modules(8) to rebuild the conf file.
in potato, the conf file has been renamed to /etc/modules.conf, but
you won't notice since you've only been playing with /etc/modutils/
