The replies to my "What to do" post seem to be addressing problems with
Star Office. Actually, before my crash of VMware two nights ago, I had no
problems with Star Office whatsoever.
I was running VMware on Tuesday night when it crashed and froze the entire
machine. I ended up having to do a power cycle reboot because the keyboard
would not work at all.
When the system came up, it tried to start X. I usually see the
"Enlightment starting" box then the screen goes into the login mode. I
supposed this comes from gdm.
I am running RedHat 6.0 with gdm 1.0.0
The problem now is that I do not see the "Enlightenment starting"
box and the display just shows a blank screen.
I switched to run level 3, which does not start the X server and ran
startx from root. I see the "Enlightenment starting" box and X starts
okay. If I login under another user, I cannot startx...authentication
problem. I have read much so far but it is overwhelming me at the moment.
I have reinstalled the gdm package from my original RH 6.0 rpm package. No
change.
I suspect there is some nasty file lurking around somewhere that is
preventing Enlightenment from starting when gdm starts but I don't know
what to look for.
Hope someone can help.
