Hey gimme a break, you can't tell that because Microsoft is guilty of
abstraction, ("kowledge of what really goes on") that they are guilty of
poor software? C'mon its like hey to write good pearl you should know
assembly.

The largest part of my job that has to do with people, is translating a
problem into a solution. This means, hey i think i want to be able to do
this. Or, I'm doing this, out of your experience, what's the problem? or
what are some solutions? So its a process of sorting out users needs/wants
and finding the best solution. Cos yeah although a user wants instant mail,
calendaring, streaming porn, whatever, they also don't want high bandwidth
charges, or high admin charges, or poor stability or any other downsides.
They may not know at first when they are looking at all these great
features, but they will know that they don't want any of the crap things
when the product goes down so much its unusable or whatever.
Too often, on this list at least, I see people that disregard the plain,
simple needs of people(users) with better things to do for the sake of their
favorite peice of software. Notice i didn't say solution.
Maybe it's because they aren't actually out there on the coal face facing
people who actually use all this stuff to be more productive and doing all
those other jobs that have come to rely on IT infrastructure and IT people.
Cmon people, lets not bite the hand that feeds.
