Well, what a coincidence! My new box has just arrived, it's an 800MHz
Athlon CPU on an ABit KA7-100 mobo. I tell you what, this is the best
thing ever! At my current upgrade ratio, the next chip will be about
3.2GHz ;)
But seriously, I don't think you could have any problems with new
hardware, the latest kernel supports most everything out there, and
anything not directly in the kernel (like the EIDE chipset on this mobo)
has patches floating around the 'net. I'm using kernel 2.2.16 atm, i'll
be getting 2.2.17 RSN. And I'm damn sure that the 2.4 series is going
to be even better on new hardware support.
I say go with an Athlon ;)
