Veritas works across Unix / Windows / whatever clients.
It's not free though. It uses a dedicated TCP port.
Things are stored in its own proprietary format, however Windows files look
like Windows files and Unix files look like Unix files, preserving dates and
things.

Is there any other method that only updates changes files etc and it needs
to be able to neatly put everything bak to where it was w/o changing file
permissions dates created etc.

I know there are many heavy duty back up programs for using w/ tape
archives etc but it would be quite nice if the filees were backed up as
they are and not put into an archive so i can selectivly restore w/
relitave ease.
