hi
firstly thanks for all the ppl who gave tips on backup methods i am
currently trialing a few.. (i actually managed to build rsync from the
source for win which is pretty cool)
anyway
I wanted to reduce my win partition from 6.5 gb to 3. so i did scandisk
and defrag and split it with fips no problems reported. I then deleted the
partition i had just created.
the funney thing is and i am not sure if it should work or not
if i try to make a new partition of all free space i cant get 8 gb as i
would expect. or cant i join paritions that arnt next to each other.??
If so how do i mearge the 2 lots of free space together.
the other thing is why does fdisk say tha /dev/hda2 exists and cfdisk says
it dosent. what exactly is an extended partition again and why dosent
cfdisk see it as extended.
Partition Table for /dev/hda from fdisk
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 454 3432208+ c Win95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/hda2 889 1671 5919480 5 Extended
/dev/hda5 889 908 151168+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda6 1658 1671 105808+ 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda7 909 1657 5662408+ 83 Linux
partition table of /dev/hda from cfdisk
Name Flags Part Type FS Type
[Label] Size (MB)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hda1 Boot Primary Win95 FAT32 (LBA)
3514.62
Pri/Log Free Space
3359.79
hda5 Logical Linux ext2
154.83
hda7 Logical Linux ext2
5798.34
hda6 Logical Linux swap
108.39
Pri/Log Free Space
5101.61
This is what it should be and seems to be when running the system.
hda1 is winbloze
hda5 is /boot
hda7 is /
hda6 is swap
and about 8gb of spare space.
thanks all
ghoti
