its probably a kernel problem, but not a bug (unfortunately).

try killing / restarting the X server, if you're lucky that will reset
it.

else try alt+sysrq+r. that will probably let you type, but not see
what you're doing ;)  you will probably be able to switch to a text
console and work normally tho.


either way, X is hosed.
