Ahh, you must be on the `unstable' branch of Debian. Every now and then it
becomes that (unstable). A new version of GNU LibC was installed and a lot
of stuff is (or will shortly be) breaking.
Put your libc on hold (echo libc hold | dpkg --set-selections) and downgrade
back to something reasonable. Grab the one from security.debian.org as all
the mirrors have removed the `older' version.
