For those of you who are interested. Someone mentioned that the block size may have been incorrect and they were either half right if they meant the "cpio --blocksize" or whatever but if they meant the !TAPES! block size then they were 100% correct. I did a `mt -f /dev/st0 setblk=0` and it now reads the SCO tape. Slowly but it does it. I think a DD =if/dev/st0 would probably help it speed up as it did with a SCO tar tape. thanks to all who helped on suggestions.
