Hi all,

My Dad's just brought home a CanoScan N1220U USB scanner that he'll
eventually be using at the office on a Mac. But while it's at home I
thought I might have a play with it. Seem to be out of luck though. :-(
No problems with patching kernel 2.2.17 for USB support, but it seems
that SANE can't handle Canon USB scanners because Canon don't want to
release the necessary info - In the end I booted into Win98 (shame,
shame) to see if the thing worked, which it did. So I'm wondering if
anybody has any ideas about this? It seems that it'll only work in Windows
(or MacOS), so I was considering the possibility of running it using
VMWare or Win4Lin. Anybody have any thoughts on what would happen if I
installed Win98 into VMWare, and then installed the scanner software?
(Brings up an interesting licensing issue - if you've got a dual
boot machine, can you install Windows into VMWare on that machine without
breaking the MS license? You've installed and are potentially running two
instances of Windows while only paying for a single license.) Anyway,
anybody have any ideas on the possibility of using this scanner under
Linux?

Thanks,
Tom
