As root
     cd /usr/local/bin
     vi ll - then enter what you want, e.g.
         i  to enter insert mode
         ls -ld * | more     (no return)  then <esc>:wq  - of course any
editor will do
     chmod +x ll

As user 
   ll - may produce a paged full listing of the directory you are in.
