Any distro I've used hasn't been affected (RH 5.2+, Debian potato+,
Turbolinux at one stage, that strange Gentus retread for about 30 mins,
various test runs of the other distros)... I lose gpm almost as soon as it's
installed. :)

If you have a primarily X-based machine, you don't need gpm. Remove it - the
little time you need to spend at the oft-useful console doesn't count! Or,
route around it - however I haven't used gpm with X enough to determine
whether you can use /dev/mouse in X when gpm is running (you should be able
to, perahps unless it's a serial mouse, don't call me on this one).

If you run a primarily console-based machine, throw on gpm - it can't hurt.
If it's a server, what on earth do you have X or gpm on there for anyway? ;)
