Hi People,

I've just joined the list, so my apologies if this question has already
been asked.

I recently installed RedHat 7.0 on a couple of my systems and have hit a
number of strange problems re console colours changing all by themselves
(apparently).

Whenever I start up X11, the console palette seems to change to somewhat
dimmer colours upon exit. This seems to happen to every console, not just
the one where I initiated the X11 session. What's more, the cursor
disappears, which makes it hard to type (well, at least hard to edit the
command line, if that becomes necessary ... which it is for me all the time!).

I took a look at /usr/src/linux/drivers/char/console.c and found some code
that seems to define what the "default" colours are. When I pulled this
out and wrote a small program to output the appropriate escape sequences it
appears to generate the same palette that's occurring after exiting X11. I
know it's actually doing something, because I tried changing the order of
the colours in the code and that changed the colour scheme.

What I don't understand is why the console palette starts out being set to
something other than this default. I'm sure I could work out the right set
of colours and modify my little program to set them. However, this seems
like far too much fiddling, and also doesn't fix the fact that the cursor
has disappeared. I'm sure I must be missing something.

Any ideas?

TIA.
