The problem is almost certainly not the new video card, but rather that
you have recently upgraded Woody (with X4.0.2 that's REALLY
likely). There's a well known bug in Woody that breaks user based X
server use at the moment. You will probably find that the first line of
/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config says allowed_users=root_only or some such,
change it to allowed_users=console, and your problem should be
fixed. Also, for future reference, it's bad for to say "my new vid card
broke X" and not tell us any salient facts, like what card it is... I
almost didn't bother to reply.
