The original choice was a mistake.. but that doesn't explain why there is
no pipe.. not one, nowhere. I've gone through every keystroke in shift
and non-shift.

Nor can I figure out how to change back to US english without going
through a complete install.. the latter seems a little drastic. The
handbook is not helpful. I'm sure there is a config somewhere, but who
knows where?
