I thought that the server daemons were really nice, but all the
IMAP _clients_ sucked...

I'm using courier IMAPd alongside qmail, and that's fine.
Before I got Courier's imapd going I just used qmails
qmail-pop3d. It worked perfectly. What's the problem? Doesn't
it compile without the rest of the qmail stuff? What server are
you using with maildirs if not qmail?
