BASIC, to a large extent, does not give you a good grounding in "sound
programming practice". Certainly, you can make the leap, but it will take a
great deal of work to (as Gus once said on this list) "get it".

Think of it this way: If your dance partner is a graceless buffoon, you will
have an enormously difficult time learning the elegance and grace that
masterful dancers posess.

BASIC will give you two left feet. Two left, cloven feet.
