Is there a universal unix way to determine versions?
I had reason to look for the version of postgresql. Someone said use the
"-v" option, but in fact that doesn't exist for postresql, also doesn't
exist on various other proggies. I was able to use dpkg -l but only on
Debian. I'm sure there are other tricks, but is there a universal Unix
way? or do I just figure out on a case by case basis?
