Hi,
A week or so ago a message was posted on this mailing list about the need
for Linux instructors in Singapore. This message was forwarded to me from
someone on SLUG.
Since I was going to LinuxWorld Singapore, I thought that I would follow
the email up. A conversation resulted, and I make some comments below that
those who are interested might find useful.
Then, while I was in Singapore, this same person (based on writing style
and the extravagant claim made at the bottom and the phone number) posted a
request to the LinuxJobs mailing list in Australia which was then forwarded
by another person to the LinuxSA mailing list.
Discussions in Singapore with people who are actually conducting training,
and also with the person in question lead me to believe that:
1. The person sending out the email does not have any course materials. The
person sending the email seems to expect the instructor to come with course
materials. There are already credible companies in Singapore delivering
Linux courses based on one or other of the avaliable sets of Linux
courseware. These same companies have at least one instructor. That is, I
have met one.
2. The person sending out the email does not have a realistic expectation
of fees for an instructor
3. I could not find anyone in Singapore who found this person a credible
broker for Linux trainers in Singapore. Stronger statements can be made,
but I cannot make them here on this list.
I would suggest that anyone following up ensures that they see a contract.
I would further ask for a part payment of fees in advance, and I would
require penalty clauses in the contract for cancellation.
Feel free to contact me for additional information.
Regards
