Greetings again Ian
I have finally worked out my printing problem. In the /var/spool/lpd/lp
directory I had the following files set
incorrectly:
filter - was set to rwx______ (I set it to rwxrwx___)
all the .cfg files were set to rw_______ (I set them to rw_rw____)
This was all I had to do (as well as the permissions as set out in the
Printing HOWTO) to get the printer
to print from a normal user. Why, Why, Why doesn't the printing subsystem
come ready for all users
to print. This seems like a lot of fiddling around just to get something as
basic as a printer to work.
Anyway, I have now written a script file to set up all this automatically,
so I won't have to go through
all this again. Thanks for trying to help.
