Well I commented out the line in etc/pam.d/ftp that reads
auth required /lib/security/pam_listfile.so item=user sense=deny
file=/etc/ftpusers onerr=success debug
and it works.
However if I put it back in I now get the message
proftpd. Error in Service Module
So I guess I am leaving it out for now.
What can possibly be the problem??? is it with /lib/security/pam_listfile.so
or with
/etc/ftpusers
