does you laptop bios support hot-swap ? I used to have a texas instruments
extensa, and it did NOT support hot swap. in other words, I could boot up
w/ cdrom, or boot up w/ floppy, but generally speaking I could not swap once
I had booted. (I think there was some exceptions where I could boot w/ one, and
swap to the other, but generally it was not so good about this).
You might be having the same problem. I do not have experiance w/ the thinkpad.
My latest laptop (acer 725) supports floppy & dvd/cdrom simultaneously, so it is
no longer an issue for me. (yeah, I know, that's not a solution for you...)
