Hi,

I am considering multi-boot options for my home system 'sunnyside' [PII
233mmx, 128MB, GA686-LX440] and I learnt quite a bit from the multi-boot
'experts' who responded to the the 'question - multiboot etc.' thread
initiated by Michael on 08-05-01. Thank you all!

I am currently using GRUB bootloader to boot Linux and to call the win2K
bootloader, with win98se on /hda 1GB FAT32, win2K on /hdb 8.9GB FAT32, and
Linux (currently mandrake 8.0) in an extended partition on /hdc 42GB 1+2
FAT32, +1 Ext2, +1 Linux Swap. GRUB is set to default to win98se (for
family use).

This setup is OK as long as I do not need to install / re-install an OS
but I would like to be able to do this without having to resort to
fdisk/MBR or to reconstruct the multi-boot by hand each time. (Twice so far ...)

The information about the OS/2 boot manager posted by Grant Tester sparked
my interest in looking for a dedicated pre-bootloader system that could
function independently from any of the installed OS and that would survive
an OS install (or at least be easily recreated). A quick search found a few
proprietary products that claim to do this (eg. Vamos, System Selector).

With my current multi-boot setup I am quite nervous about 'experimenting'
with Linux - which tends to defeat my purpose in installing the OS. I would
appreciate any advice on a more secure multi-boot system for 'sunnyside'
and any pointers to further information sources, and, yes Grant, I would
like to have a look at the 'boot manager' floppy image, if convenient.

Thank you all for making this such a fascinating discussion list.
