In case you have a ISA sound card you can try (as root)

   /sbin/pnpdump | less

   or

   /sbin/pnpdump | grep 'ANSI'

   or 

   /sbin/pnpdump | grep 'NAME'

This might give more info about the card if it is an ISA card.
