just ferry the pppd.deb on a floppy and dpkg -i it. recurse for any
dependencies (there shouldn't be too many).
hacking the boot floppies requires a bit of "orientation" first -
it'll probably take you a good deal longer.

much faster to just suck the packages down over a PPP/SLIP/PLIP link
with HTTP or something, rather than NFS. NFS is good if you are short
on disk space, since you don't need to keep your own copy of the
.debs.
