I was using Mozilla 0.9.1 (Ximian) with the Blackdown 1.3.0 JDK and
applets were running OK (after changing some Java security plicies).

However, I have now updated Mozilla to 0.9.3 and Java is no longer
working.

I have tried setting the symlink from
..mozilla-0.9.3/plugins/javaplugin.so ->
../j2sdk/jre1.3/plugin/javaplugin.so which previously worked with 0.9.1
but it no longer works. I get the following error and Mozilla doesn't
even start:

[sjw@LoneWolf]$ mozilla
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not load
/usr/lib/j2re1.3/lib/i386/libjavaplugin_oji.so: linking
error=/usr/lib/j2re1.3/lib/i386/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol:
XtShellStrings

System error?:: Invalid argument

If I remove that link it starts but NO Java.

So, I installed the Sun JDK and set the link as suggested by them:

..mozilla-0.9.3/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so ->
../jdk1.3.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Now this at least let's Mozilla start but still no Java.

I also tried downloading the jre.xpi file (~15Mb!!) from the Netscape
site (which is the link tried by Mozilla to download the plugin) but
that did not seem to do anything when I loaded it into Mozilla.

Scouring the web, it seems this is a problem that many people have and
that it is harder to get working than it should be.

The 0.9.3 release notes on www.mozilla.org simply state to set the link
as I have done. There's nothing on the Ximian support pages.

Does anyone have a fool proof way of getting Java to work with Mozilla?
Or does anyone have any other suggestions as to what to try?
