Yes, it's this question again :) There was the earlier thread on multi-head
support, but that's not quite what I'm after.

What is the best (most stable, fastest) video card for Linux with open
drivers? I'm not much of a gamer, and multi-head is another one of these
options that I'm not too fussed about. The consensus (from previous threads)
seems to be Matrox cards, which I'm quite happy with - but is the G550
supported? The kernel and Xfree86 only talk about the 450 (although it
is supposedly pin compatible, at least).

Likewise, what are the good sound card options? Something that talks a
digital 5.1 sounds like a good idea, but what is supported under Linux?

This is all to go into a dual Athlon, which is another reason for wanting
stable, open sourced drivers if at all possible. I'm not averse to hardware
that is only partially supported (eg, soundcard minus 5.1 support), provided
that the partial support is still comparable to full support of anything
else.
