ALSA's Emu10k1 driver (the driver used for the Sound Blaster Live) is a bit more mature - it's had fairly good support for the card's additional features, such as the card's MIDI interface and the wavetable. [ALSA = Advanced Linux Sound Architecture : http://www.alsa-project.org/] Last time I had used the kernel driver, it was still a fair way behind [back in 2.2 something] and only really supported the DSP and Mixer, and didn't even support the (optional) LiveDrive breakout box.
