Anyway perhaps I'm just showing my complete lack of interest (hence knowledge) about these things, I just find it impossible to get excited or worried about things like balance of trade and something account deficits etc. But as I said before, I agree the govt should be using OSS, or at the very least insisting on only using software compliant with common open standards (eg. the tax office making people use M$ shit for lodging electronic returns is a prime example).
