There's usually no problem with sharing IRQs iff all the devices using that IRQ are all PCI. (My laptop has the sound card, PCMCIA adapter and NIC all on the same IRQ, and it works perfectly.) There are also some ISA devices which can share IRQs, but they're rare. The only common card I can think of off the top of my head which has IRQ sharing problems is the SB Live, which seems flaky on many motherboards anyway.
