so far I haven't got it to boot off the debian cd (but it does off
the solaris cd) so haven't got to making partitions etc yet.

I hope I don't need a fat partition for linux! (and AFAIK nt won't
run on a sparc not that you would want to surely!).

The debian sparc installation doc seems to be missing a few bits but
I'm hoping if I get that far it'll work out.

I'm downloading another (different) iso image to try that in the
absence of any other ideas.  That'll take another 2 days or so.
