This raises an interesting point. Think of the last time you saw your average "mum and dad" use a computer. Most likely you were astounded by their lack of understanding of the basic concepts and metaphors of their system. Your average child, on the other hand, understands far more, and can apply that knowledge when learning new applications, etc. What I'm getting at, is that maybe mainstream linux adoption will not happen for some time. Not because linux doesn't have application X or game Y or whatever (and these days, it probably does!), but because it will take a generation before clueful (and unbiased) users become the purchasing decision makers.
