Hi All, There was some talk about mutual support between CAT, SLUG and Computerbank at the last meeting. Here's some material on that, based on consultations I've had with others on the catkore list.
First, there's the main cat page at : http://www.cat.org.au And there's a meeting at 7.30 Monday 4th Februrary, at Corner of Henry and Cook Streets, Turrella. If you're interested in CAT, its a good place to start. We in CAT would welcome more involvement on the activities CAT does, system administration ... perhaps some joint events ? There's often stuff happening on Thursdays, too - I believe people are working at painting tables and that sort of stuff - if you're interested, get on the catkore list and take things from there. One event coming up is the Community Web Developer's Forum, a weekend in April. http://www.cat.org.au/communityweb/ click on Draft Agenda - its something slug people might be interested in participating in. Next, Computerbank ... There is space CAT has which could be used to store computers ... it depends on how secure you want the space to be, CAT might be able to provide some small volume reasonably secure space, and a lot more low security space. It would probably be possible to offer the space for free, the lower grade the space, the more likely it can be offered for free. Even the worst space is under cover, quite satisfactory for computers, make no mistake ... CAT's concerns are that computerbank provide its own labour to deal with the computers, and computerbank provide the effort to get rid of stuff that really is junk. CAT might be able to help with the provision of a little free secure space, but ideally CAT just controls it and computerbank people do the real work. Would be nice for CAT to get some computers along the way :) But ... there is definitely "in-principle" support.
