No, there is no secret.

The NT partition will contain a valid bootsector which can then
continue and chain the NT kernel.  LILO, Grub and CHOS, XOSL, etc, all
support chain-booting, and can use this method to boot NT, as long as
you install that bootloader itself somewhere fairly safe.
