Bob, I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 with built-in CD-RW drive. The Inspiron design is very flxible with a media bay that can fit a floppy drive/2nd HDD/zip drive/battery/optical drive (CD/DVD/CD-RW). All up it's been a fab "mobile desktop" to use your term, though it isn't light (~3.5kgs I think). I now have everything working, CD burning, USB, IR, PCMCIA, etc. I would really recommend one and they were the best value IMHO when I looked around at the start of last year. >From my web researching a lot of people use them with Linux (check out http://www.linux-laptop.net/ if you haven't for people's tips on linux laptops).
