Well it is documented in the man page for BIND9 that
shipped with Mandrake 8.1. Perhaps you have an older
version (both man page and bin).

/usr/sbin/named -v
BIND 9.2.0rc3

certainly works on that version - from Mandrake 8.1
(which reminds me, I aught to uninstall it now :)
