You should try running X-windows as non-root user. -----Original Message----- From: Bill Taylor [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, 21 March 2002 12:51 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [SLUG] debian.potato-X
back to this again, sorry. I just don't know enough to figure out what it is telling me. I've just run xf86config again, everything is set much as it is for RH (and windoze) on the same box # startx /usr/bin/X11/xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority X: exec of /usr/bin/X11/XF86_SVGA failed _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: can't connect: errno = 111 giving up. xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): server error. /# cd ~# dir dbootstrap_settings ~# OK server failed. but there is nothing in /root from xauth unless it is a hidden file? but XF86_SVGA isn't in /usr/bin/X11 #find / XF86_SVGA : No such file or directory have I sorted it out? what now ? do I download or downgrade my video? (sorry if this is longwinded, but i'm working on one box , recording on the other) -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ More Info: http://lists.slug.org.au/listinfo/slug -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ More Info: http://lists.slug.org.au/listinfo/slug
