True > Map companies are very sensitive about their data, it's their main > asset, and they spend millions aquiring the data. Most of the data has been acquired over the last few decades by the Central Mapping Authority, the Lands Department and, out west, by the Australion Gelopgical Survey Organisation. We have already paid for the data collection and much of the map data processing through our taxes. As someone has already mentioned this is why the US make the map data available to the public. Even packages such as GRASS (A GIS package that runs under Linux) are available to the public as it was developed by the military and hence with US taxpayers money (a la Internet). Go straight to the source of the map data and ask for a free copy :-) Best of luck :-) -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Lake University of Technology, Sydney Email: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Ph: 02 9514 1724 Fx: 02 9514 1628 Linux enthusiast, active caver and interested in anything technical. -------------------------------------------------------------------- UTS CRICOS Provider Code: 00099F DISCLAIMER ===================================================================== This email message and any accompanying attachments may contain confidential information.
