If you're running webmin on that there is a good overview package called systats. Visit the webmin home page.
Otherwise ntop is good from the command line (you'll need to acquire it). ifconfig also gives you the poop. systats is pretty, gives cute little by the minute graphs including eth activity. Breaks by daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.
