I've had no trouble with primus internet services or the modem before. I could not find the noccp option in either /etc/ppp/options or in /etc/ppp/peers (the latter being full of non alpha-numeric symbols).

Sometimes it dies gracefully (the compression turns off), other times the whole connection goes west.Different modems seem to behave differently. You need the noccp option in your pppd script, erm, in your providers script under /etc/ppp/peers I think.
