Could you set up the Windows machine with ICS or something similar in the
mean time, to establish a net connection from your Linux machine?

Sounds like you need to set your Linux box up as a gateway. :-)

[ Your other option is to get some testing cds from someone kind, and use
apt-cdrom to set them up and install from them. You will need to download
far too much manually to install dia from testing on a potato machine. ]
