I dont really want to go into all the fuss of configuring a Samba client for network printing so all i can suggest is that you check out all the doco you can on Samba...and have a look at SWAT...which is a Samba administration interface...makes things a little easier...Try google.com when searching for Samba information.
As for question number 2, basically you need to setup your chat script, make sure you have pppd installed...this could be a langthy process if your doing it all by hand. Again i suggest using google to search for a tutorial that someone ele has already typed up on how to setup an internet connection. As for the winmodem....i suggest you throw it out...that would be the easiest solution. otherwise check out the vendor web site for linux drivers, and if you dont have any luck try using google to find drivers someone else out there may have written..other wise there really isn't much use for it. I suggest you either buy an external modem, or buy a non-winmodem style internal modem, but the first option would be easier in my opinion. The USR modems, i dont know if you would have trouble with it...as long as it is external or non-winmodem then it should work fine as a standard modem, otherwise check the vendor site for linux drivers or instructions on how to fine tune the modem for linux... Hope that helps. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Beverly Rosendorf Sent: Friday, 26 April 2002 8:12 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [SLUG] Help 1. In RedHat Linux 7.0, I try to configure a network printer whose IP is 10.4.4.15 and get the error Get_Local_Host: hostname 'c2fgcomputec' bad. I can't seem to get a print test out. Can you tell me how to configure an LAN printer step by step from beginning to end? 2. To configure a modem, there is no PPP/SLIP in the linuxconf. How do i set it for my modem? What if i have a US robotics or winmodem?
