Hello,
I'm interested in getting a laptop but since I'm a student I have to go with the
cheap options. I have narrowed these down to Excel (ECS) or Highlander laptops,
both of which I think are the same thing anyway. I have two concerns about
running Linux on these things, as I need Linux for the computational work I'm
doing. Firstly, has anyone actually run Linux sucessfully on one of these
things? I've heard talk of a lot of people trying, but haven't heard any
results. Secondly, one of the "features" of these laptops is the lack of a
PCMCIA card, being subsituted by a built-in modem and LAN. LAN is very important
for me to use, otherwise the laptop is useless ot me. What is this "builtin"
networking, what chipsets does it use and is it compaitible with Linux.
Any information is well appreciated and thank you for your time
Peter Domachuk
